Issam Mouded Obituary

Dr. Issam “Sam” Mouded, 81, of Springfield, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at his home on May 10, 2026. Born in Syria on January 18, 1945, Dr. Mouded emigrated to the United States to pursue a career in medicine. Together with his wife of 54 years, Nadwa Mouded, they created an incredible life of family, service, and love.

Dr. Mouded received his degree in medicine from Damascus University. He went on to accept a Residency of Surgery from Yale-New Haven Medical Center, followed by a Residency of Urology from Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Mouded spent time practicing medicine in the Middle East, Kansas, and New York before settling on Hudson County, New Jersey, where he owned and operated a private urology practice for over 40 years, becoming a beloved doctor to scores of people. During his career, he also served as Chief of Surgery at Greenville Hospital in Jersey City and Chief of Urology at Meadowlands Hospital. Even after retiring from medicine, he received calls daily from patients, friends, and colleagues who came to count on his expertise and opinion, or simply to say hello.

Dr. Mouded found happiness in life’s simple and meaningful moments. He loved traveling the world, sharing laughter over a Scotch neat with family and friends, and opening his home to friends, neighbors, and family. Summers were spent in his backyard oasis by the pool, taking in the sun, surrounded by his beautiful flower garden, music, good food, and loved ones, especially his grandchildren. These treasured traditions will be what is missed most without him, but reflected in the generosity and hospitality that defined him so completely.

Dr. Mouded’s greatest achievement was that of his family. He and his wife, Nadwa, viewed family as the most important part of their lives. He was the devoted father to Yara, Hounada, and George, and a cherished father-in-law to Kimberly. The greatest gift of all was his grandchildren, Matthew, Christopher, Nicholas, Ryan, and Adeline, who adoringly regarded him as “Jido.” His family brought him immense pride and joy.

Dr. Mouded is predeceased by his parents, Marrousch and Mousa, his brothers Samir and Islah, and his sisters Samira and Mary. He leaves behind his brother, Dr. Majed Mouded and his wife Nawal, along with a host of nieces and nephews who respected and loved him.

He was a beautiful person on the inside and out. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
