Helga Emma Miller, of Union, NJ passed away at the age of 82 on May 16, 2020.
Helga was born in Ansbach, Germany and came to the United States as a young bride of an American Army sergeant, with whom she will now be reunited in resting peace following his passing in 2012. As a mother of four, grandmother of six grandchildren and great grandmother of four grandchildren, she was always compassionate and loving and was never afraid to speak her mind. Her strong spirit and dry sense of humor were her hallmarks that charmed and endeared her to not only family and friends, but usually anyone who met her.
Later in life, Helga became a recess aide at Washington Elementary School in Union. Following over two decades of employment, she built a legacy among multiple generations of children and became affectionately known by the name of ‘Grandma’. Since Helga was always a great listener and approached conversations with an open heart and treated everyone equally, children often sought her help, comfort and advice to ease playground tension or general concerns they might have.
Helga’s passions and interests were simple. She loved the outdoors and would enjoy gardening, walking and when possible going on drives and vacations where she could enjoy nature. She also loved listening to music and surprising friends and family with her hidden vocal talent.
Funeral arrangements are private and restricted to immediate family only in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. At a later date, when it is safe to gather, friends and relatives will be invited to attend a celebration of her life.
