Helen A. McKeown

Helen A. McKeown, loving mother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away on May 31, 2021. A proud resident of the City of Elizabeth, Helen worked for the County of Union’s Division of Purchasing for more than twenty years. She had an impressivework ethic, was detail-oriented and enjoyed her job immensely.Family was everything to Helen and she is survived by her son Michael, daughter Susan, brother Frank, nephews Frankie, Andrew and Michael, their spouses and children, as well as her niece Mary. In addition, Helen is survived by her lifelong best friend Kathy Klinowski, who she enjoyed more than sixty years of friendship and was Godmother to her son Billy. She was predeceased by her husband Walter, who she was married to for 47 years, in 2015. In her spare time, Helen was an avid reader;loved going to the Elizabeth Public Library; enjoyed traveling, cruises and visiting new places; BBC and PBS mysteries, as well as spending time with her loved ones. She had a wonderful sense of humor, enjoyed a good laugh and was an animal lover, enjoying the companionship of pets throughout her life. Dedicated, dependable and kind, Helen believed in making a difference in the lives of others and was a supporter of St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. She was an amazing, caring and supportive person, who was adored by her children and will be greatly missed by all. Funeral arrangements are through Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Avenue, Westfield, NJ 07090, followed by a private mass and intermentat St. Gertrude’s Cemetery, 53 Inman Avenue, Colonia, NJ. The wake will be held Thursday, June 3, 2021, from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the Funeral Home. The family requests that face masks please be worn during visitation. The family is also requesting that the funeral mass to be held on June 4, 2021 at St. Genevieve’s Church and St. Gertrude’s to follow, would please be private.
