Helen Guarino

Helen Guarino died on Thursday Oct. 6, 2022 at Overlook Hospital in Summit N.J.  Helen had two brothers (Peter & Arsenio “Gene”) (deceased) and two sisters (Matilda & Olga), all originally from Newark, N.J.  Helen later moved to East Orange, N.J. after marriage and then settling into Kenilworth, N.J.  in 1961 until the time of her passing. 

Helen was married in 1953 for 47 years, to Emilio “Mid” Guarino (deceased) and was a loving mother to two sons Carmen (deceased) and Emil who were central to her life.  Helen was a homemaker for her entire life after marriage who enjoyed home gatherings during holidays with family and friends, for over 60 years. Helen enjoyed being a part of all family activities that extended to attending all types of sporting events, (for her family and relatives both playing & coaching), going deer hunting with her husband and sons and friends, crabbing at the Jersey shore, family construction projects, taking pictures, and watching scary movies. Helen was open and personable and could make anyone laugh by her honesty and sincere ability to understand situations making light of it, while helping anyone that needed to be uplifted. The entire family marveled at her longevity diet that consisted of chocolate, licorice, cigarettes, late night baloney sandwiches, and a “Nice Cup of Coffee” which confirmed that she had the “Supergene”.  

Helen is survived by her Son - Emilio Guarino Jr./ Grandchildren - Emilio John, Christopher Carmen, Collette Julie, Gina Marie, Carmen William/ Sisters –Matilda &  Olga/ Sister in Law- Eleanor/  Nieces & Nephews- Peter, Donna, Frank, Tia, Tom, Mark, Donna, Sandra, Linda, Cathy, Vanessa/Daughter In Law- Betty Ann who will cherish her memory. 

While Helen leaves her earthly life behind anyone that knew her will agree, she enriched their lives.  

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 11, 2022 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Ave., Westfield, NJ 07090. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 12, 2022 at 10:30 AM at St. Theresa’s Church Kenilworth, NJ 07033. Interment will follow at Graceland Memorial Park, Kenilworth, N.J
