Helen Geotakes Obituary

Helen Geotakes (nee Vasil), passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2021 peacefully at home at the age of 90.

She was born in Paterson to Chris and Pauline Vasil and also lived in Irvington, Fanwood, and Scotch Plains.

Helen began her career as a medical assistant for private practice physicians before joining Runnells Specialized Hospital as a unit secretary. She was promoted to transportation coordinator before retiring in June 1999.  Even after her retirement Helen returned to Runnells to volunteer her time with the residents.

Helen was joyful, outspoken and made friends easily.  She continued to find the joy in life, and laugh with abandon, even after losing people who were close to her.  Spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Greek dancing, taking fun day trips, playing games, and going to Atlantic City were some of the enjoyments of her life.

Helen was predeceased by her loving husband of 68 years, Nicholas Geotakes, brothers Arthur and George Vasil, and beloved daughter Kristie Hall.

She leaves behind two daughters, Marilyn Maroulakos (Harry) and Andria Kiel (Henry); son in law Jack Hall; and her 9 grandchildren, Nicole Goodwin (Dan), Marie Reffler (Rick), Christopher Maroulakos (Dani), Nicholas (Katie), Billy, and Tommy Hall, and Ryan, Timothy and Alyssa Kiel.

She also cherished her 6 great-grandchildren; James and Nate Goodwin, Nicholas, Matthew, and Alexa Reffler, and Charlotte Kristie Hall.

The family thanks Tiffany Williams for the excellent care she provided Helen in her last days.

Funeral is by invitation only.  Donations in Helen’s memory can be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 250 Gallows Hill Rd, Westfield, NJ 07090.
