Harry Kuo-Fay Eng

Harry Kuo-Fay Eng of Springfield, NJ, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 13, 2023 at the age of 93.  Born in Toishan, China, Harry came to America through Ellis Island, NY at 10 years old with his mother, Lee Shee Eng, aboard the SS Fort Townshend. They joined his father, Yuck Wah Eng, in Paterson, NJ.  As the first born son of his family he had to toil hard in his father's laundry until eventually moving to New York City to pursue his dreams - a college education and his love of painting.

In 1961 Harry married Mei-Huei Liu, a nursing student from Taiwan. 

A lifelong learner, Harry enjoyed surfing the internet especially on current events, reading poetry and books, listening to classical music and watching PBS. He also loved nature documentaries, often marveling at the diversity of life on earth. Into his late 70's Harry was also an avid tennis player.  

Harry and his wife Mei-Huei served in leadership positions with the Organization of Chinese Americans Long Island chapter, focusing their efforts on supporting the next generation of Asian Americans through scholarships and social gatherings. He and Mei-Huei were also keen ballroom dancers, and devoted grandparents to their beloved grandson, Harry Eng Britton.

A celebration of Harry's life will be held at Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Ave., Westfield, NJ on Saturday, February 25, 2023 from 1 PM to 4 PM.  The family asks that those wishing to make in memoriam donations make them to New Jersey PBS through the NJ PBS memorial donations page with the note, "In Memory of Harry Kuo-Fay Eng." NJ PBS Memorial Donations
