Geraldine O'Brien Obituary

Geraldine (Gerri) Morrissey O’Brien of Brick, NJ, died peacefully with her husband and children at her side on Oct. 10, 2024.  Born January 18,1934 in Elizabeth NJ, to Jack and Elizabeth Lynch Morrissey where she grew up and graduated from Battin High School.  She married James Joseph O’Brien Sr. of Elizabeth, the love of her life, on June 19, 1955 at St. Mary’s Church.

Gerri had a strong faith and a love of all things Irish! She was a member of the St. John Vianney Parish in Colonia and most recently Saint Dominic’s Parish in Brick. She was active with her children at St. John Vianney and Colonia public schools volunteering in the PTA and with their sports including the Colonia High School Fifth Quarter Club. She was a member of the Princeton Commons Women’s Club in Brick. Gerri held several administrative positions over the years including State Farm.  She was an outstanding cook, an avid reader, a fashionista and loved to travel with her family anywhere, especially  to Florida and Europe. For Gerri it was family over all else. She will be missed by many for her warm smile, unmatched energy, zest for life and caring spirit.

Gerri is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Jim; children James O'Brien of Wilton, CT and his wife Karen, Jeffrey O’Brien of Freehold, NJ and his wife Kate, Nancy Habick of Bethlehem, PA and her husband Jim, Mark O’Brien of Barnstable, MA and his wife Sue, David O’Brien of Glenmore, PA and his wife Bonnie, Glenn O’Brien of Brick, NJ and his wife Cheryl, daughter-in-law Karen Oller O’Brien of Wilmington, DE, Sharon Lisnock of Flowery Branch, GA and husband Joe, thirty grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Christopher and siblings Mary, Richard and John.

Viewing will be Tuesday, October 15, from 4:00pm – 8:00pm at Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, Westfield, NJ.   Mass of Christian Burial is at St. John Vianney Parish, Colonia, Wednesday, October 16, at 11:00am followed by the burial at Fairview Cemetery, Westfield.   In lieu of flowers, tribute donations can be made in Geraldine’s name to The American Heart Association through their website, www.heart.org, or mailed to the American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692 or Grace Healthcare Services (Hospice), 105 Fieldcrest Ave, Suite 402, Edison NJ  08837.
