George Skorinko Obituary

George Skorinko passed away on February 20, 2024.

He was born in Palmerton, PA to Julia (née Jarinko) and Frank Skorinko. George was a resident of Berkeley Heights, NJ and had also lived in Roselle, NJ for thirty-five years.

George was a long-time parishioner of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. He served as a member of the Scholarship Committee, providing scholarships to graduating seniors. He was a member of AHEPA, TAG and Trinity Circle, Holy Trinity’s senior group. He loved the fellowship of his church community. George and Evelyn, his wife, were members of the Cultural Committee since its inception.

George travelled extensively with his wife Evelyn and family around the world. Visiting places such as the United States, Europe, Asia Minor, China, Russia and Canada.

George graduated with honors from Lehigh University. After serving in the U.S. Air force as a Captain during the Korean War and being honorably discharged, he obtained his Ph.D. in Optical and Laser Physics from Boston University and Penn State University.

George was a Professor Emeritus, teaching and doing research at Brooklyn College CUNY, doing his sabbatical in Cologne, Germany, University of Köln.

He retired in 1992 after teaching for over thirty-five years. He was an honored professor and researcher and one-time head of the Physics Department. He loved knowledge, education and the sciences.

George was an avid golfer and loved to play with his league partners and friends. He was quite a competitor and shot various “holes in one” during his lifespan of playing the game. George even played with Arnold Palmer in Pennsylvania in their youth.

George was a hard-working advocate of raising and maintaining awareness for the community of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. He spent years as an active fundraiser for his charity TEACH as a parent and an activist, serving as champion for those unable to advocate for themselves.

George was devoted to his family. His love for his wife, Evelyn and continuous devotion to his children, Alexis and Ivan was never ending. He was a dedicated husband and father, as well as a loving uncle to his various nieces and nephews.

George is the last of an extended family of siblings to whom he was a devoted and caring brother.

George is survived by his children, Alexis and Ivan and his nieces and nephews and their extended families.
