Gail Roma Obituary
Gail Roma, born on June 10, 1953, in Newark, NJ, passed away on June 12, 2026, in Toms River, NJ, leaving behind a life marked by loyalty, warmth, and a lasting presence in the hearts of those who knew her.
Gail was the beloved daughter of the late Sophie Farawell and the late Gaetano Roma, and the cherished sister of the late Thomas Roma. She is survived by her sister, Michelle Schilare, as well as her nieces, nephews, and many devoted friends who will remember her with love and happy memories. Her family was an important part of her life, and she carried their memory and influence with her throughout the years.
For decades, Gail was a beloved waitress at the Kenilworth Diner, where she became far more than a familiar face behind the counter. She was part of the very fabric of the place and one of the people who carried its history. For longtime customers, Gail was not simply a waitress, but a cherished community member they had known for decades. Some had been coming to the diner since her mother worked there, and it was always special for Gail and those customers to reminisce about the old days. They shared stories about her mother, the diner, and the many people who had come and gone through the years. Gail did not merely know the history of the place. She lived it. She was loyal, dependable, and deeply devoted to the diner and to the people who walked through its doors.
Those who knew Gail will remember her as funny, outspoken, and never afraid to tell you exactly what was on her mind. She held herself to a high standard and expected the same from those around her. She took pride in her work, arrived on time, and could always be counted on. Her strong personality was matched by her sense of responsibility and her genuine care for the people in her life. She had a way of making her presence known, and she left a lasting impression wherever she went.
Outside of work, Gail enjoyed many of life’s simple pleasures. She loved her Jets football, horse racing, bingo, and the occasional trip to the slots. During football season, Sundays were often spent watching the games, and she was known to be very knowledgeable about football. She enjoyed talking with customers about the teams and the plays. These conversations were part of what made her so memorable, because she brought energy, opinion, and enthusiasm to everything she did.
Gail Roma will be remembered for her steadfast nature, her sharp wit, and her deep connection to the people and places that shaped her life. She leaves behind a place that is better because she was part of it, and memories that will stay with all of those who loved her for years to come.
