Frieda Anast, 85, of Hackettstown, New Jersey died on Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at Morristown Memorial Hospital.
Born in Chicago, Illinois, she and her beloved husband George moved to Springfield, New Jersey where they raised their three children, Pennie, John and Elaine. She was a devoted and loving grandmother to Stephanie and Alexis Pappas. She was pre-deceased by her husband George, her son John, and her brothers Thomas, James and Theodore Anton. She is survived by her children, Pennie Anast, Elaine Pappas and her husband Nicholas, her grandchildren, Stephanie and Alexis Pappas, her brother Peter Anton, her sister-in-law Steffani and their family.
When Frieda and George first arrived in New Jersey, they became members of the Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Newark, until the founding of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Westfield. In 1975, Frieda and George became the Godparents of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church having been the first to open the Sanctuary door with His Eminence Archbishop Iakovos. She was a devoted member of the Ladies Philoptochos Society and the Trinity Circle. She was an active member of the community, including the Church’s annual Greek Festival, Merry Market, the Fashion Show, the Rummage Sale and Church dances. She was a talented artist, baker, a loving mother, grandmother, godmother, sister, daughter, sister in-law, aunt, cousin and friend. Her devotion to her family, neighbors and friends never wavered, and all who met her were enriched by her kindness and her sense of humor. Her gift was giving from the heart in small quiet ways to the family, the elderly, the infirm and the needy.

FUNERAL
Funeral will be Saturday August 8, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 250 Gallows Hill Road, Westfield, New Jersey, http://holytrinitywestfield.org/

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic our family will not hold a MAKARIA luncheon after the interment. However, the family will announce a memorial luncheon after the COVID-19 pandemic ends.
