Frederick "Duke" Gould, Jr. Obituary

Frederick T. Gould, Jr., 84, of Mountainside, NJ passed away peacefully on Wednesday,
December 9. Known fondly to most as Duke, he was born in Detroit, MI to parents
Frederick and Selma Gould. He grew up in Chevy Chase, MD and Westfield, NJ where
he met the love of his life, Elaine Monti, and raised his family. He moved to Roselle Park
in 1998 and then to Mountainside in 2018.

Duke joined the Air Force after graduating from Westfield High School in 1954. After a
brief career as a stockbroker, he managed Westfield Wines and Liquors and then joined
Kings Supermarkets where he worked for over 30 years.

Duke is survived by his daughter Karen Bachert and her husband Don, his son
Christopher Gould and his wife Jackie, grandchildren Brandon Gould and fiancé Hilarey
Wojtowicz, Morgan Gould and fiancé Danny Walsh, Trevor and Sarah Bachert, and
great-grandsons Daniel and Benjamin Walsh. He was predeceased by his wife, Elaine,
his son, Jeffrey and his sister Jane McEntee. He also leaves behind his beloved Opie, a
Dachshund mix, his constant companion for the past six years.

In 1960, he married Elaine (nee Monti) and together, they built a wonderful life together.
The highlight of each year was the family vacation in Stone Harbor, NJ where Duke
enjoyed extended family gatherings, body surfing in the ocean, reading, dinners out and
playing “shells”. He and Elaine loved travel, gardening and spending time with lifelong
friends and making fun memories with their family. Duke also enjoyed going into New
York City, seeing Broadway shows and dining out. Two of his greatest dining pleasures
were oysters on the half shell and a correctly made dry Rob Roy (“no sweet vermouth!”).
He was known by so many for his clever sense of humor, his strength and his
gentleness.

A memorial will be held in celebration of Duke’s life at a later date.
