Frankie Zurav nee Frances Stalford, was born December 16, 1929 at Beth Israel Hospital in Newark, New Jersey to Anna Stalford nee Bader and William Stalford, who was an Ordnance Sergeant in WWI and had a long career as an attorney. Frankie graduated from the Livingston School in Union NJ in 1940, the Kawameeh Middle School in 1943, Union High School in 1947, Cazenovia Junior College in 1949 and Syracuse University in 1951. Frankie obtained her Master’s Degree in Education from Newark State Teacher’s College (now Kean University) in 1964.
Frankie was a special education teacher in the Plainfield NJ school system from 1964 until 2002. She was a skilled speech therapist who helped hundreds of students overcome speech impediments and have better lives.
Frankie was politically active, serving as a volunteer Legislative Aide for several New Jersey State Assembly members. She was also a strong advocate for breast cancer victims and did volunteer work for the Susan B. Kommen Fund for Breast Cancer Research. Her hobbies included aerobic dancing, walking and fine dining. She was a member of the Chaine de Rotisseur for many years.
Frankie was married for 55 joyous years to attorney David B. Zurav of Springfield and had two children, Ilene Zurav Halprin Reilly, who predeceased her, and attorney and educator Edward Zurav.
