Frank Benvenga Obituary

Frank Benvenga was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.  He was born in Messina, Italy in 1924 and came to the United States when he was a young man.  Frank was married to his beloved wife Rosaria, “Mia”, for 68 years until her passing in July 2017.

Frank valued his family and his devotion to family was exemplified through his work ethic.  That is what defined him.  Working three jobs was not unusual for Frank.  His goal was to provide for his family and to have security for retirement.  He worked in manufacturing during the week, the Police Department on the weekend, and on Thursday nights he worked in a shop that reminded him of his favorite workplace in Italy, an imported fabric store that was reminiscent of his days in retail and sales.

Frank’s work history had a purpose, which also brought him a sense of pride and joy.  The international manufacturing company provided an opportunity to secure a good future for his family.  He helped many family members and friends gain employment as well.

The Police Department was Frank’s calling of service and duty. (Just recently the Kenilworth Police came to visit at Hospice.)

His employment in retail brought him into the world of textile and design where his work experience began in Italy, and it was nostalgic.

Frank’s honorable military service was a formation of the United States Fifth Army in Italy during World War II, under the command of General Clark.

Frank was most proud of his family.  He treasured his daughters Josephine Roy and Amelia Joanne Turner, and his sons in law

Robert Roy and Dr. Mitchell Turner.  Frank cherished his granddaughters, Jessica Roy and Jaclyn Turner, who kept him young, vibrant, and always excited about the future.  Frank had loving brothers and sisters, and enjoyed the company of his many nieces and nephews.

Stories of his life were shared at the dinner table.  Frank talked about riding his horses as a child in Italy, making paper replicas of boats and airplanes, and as a young adult of his love of fabrics and tailoring.   Frank enjoyed the good earth.  His yard was filled with herbs and vegetables during the spring and summer months.  Sunday dinners were prepared with his perfect garden tomatoes with many loved ones enjoying great food and gathered together.

Frank, our hero, lived a full life and realized many dreams.  He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the community he so proudly served.
