Edward Hendrzak passed away peacefully on Friday, December 2, 2022 after battling an illness for several months. He was born in Elizabeth, NJ and was the husband of Constance (Koziol) Hendrzak for 59 years.
Ed graduated from Thomas A. Edison and was an outstanding baseball player for the late Buzzy Fox. He was scouted by the Chicago White Sox and Milwaukee Braves. He also played for the Merck Softball League.
He served in the Unites States Army in the late 1950s and served the majority of his active duty in Germany.
He was a Senior Research Chemist for 38 years at Merck & Co., and during his time at Merck he was involved in drawing the chemical structures for the “Merck Digest.” He and his co-workers were honored at a dinner in Washington, DC for their work. Ed was also a member of the 25 year Club at Merck.
He was active in Westfield baseball and served as a coach and Director in the Westfield Baseball League.
He was a member of the Brick Cherry Quay Association. Ed also lived in Naples, Florida at their condo and 43 years at their home in Westfield, NJ.
Ed is survived by his wife Constance. He is also survived by his daughters, Jill Henion (Timothy) from Danvers, MA; Karen Capone (Ronald) from Westfield, NJ, and his son Edward Jr. from Tampa, FL. He is also survived by his grandchildren – Ian and Rebecca Henion; and Matthew, Daniel and Andrew Capone.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Dominican Nuns of Our Lady of the Rosary in Summit, NJ or the American Cancer Society.
