Edward A. Boyno, Ph.D.

Edward A. Boyno, Ph.D., died Dec. 4, 2019.  Born in Newark, Nov. 7, 1944, to the late Edward and Edna (Gilmore), he is survived by Mary Ann (White), his wife of 50 years, his brothers John (Lorraine) and Robert (Jan), nephew Karl (Amanda), nieces Christa (Michael), Liz (Peter) and Emilee.  He treasured his grand-nieces Lauren and Paige.

He was also predeceased by his beloved son Ned.

Ed graduated from St. Peter’s University and received a masters and doctorate in mathematics,from Rutgers University. He later received a second masters in computer science from Stevens.

For over 30 years he did “what I loved” – teaching math and then computer science at Montclair State University.  While there, he helped write the Faculty Senate constitution, served as the Senate’s representative to the Board of Trustees, participated in numerous departmental, school, and college committees.  He also served as president of the NJ chapter of the Association of American University Professors.

In addition to his love of family and teaching, he was an avid reader and crossword puzzler, enjoyed birding, whether from his own window or during travels near and far.  His music preference was classical and he enjoyed museums, zoos and cruises.

At his parish of St Helen, Ed volunteered as an usher and as a member of the Funeral Support Ministry.

Visitation will be on Friday, December 6, 2019 from 4-8 p.m. at Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Ave., Westfield. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St Helen’s RC Church in Westfield on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 10:30 a. m
