Dora “Cusa” Mujica passed away on August 25, 2025, surrounded by her family. She passed a few months prior to what would have been her 99th birthday.
Born in Manzanillo, Cuba on January 4, 1927, to her beloved deceased parents, Jose Garcia and Mercedes Espinosa. She emigrated from Cuba to the United States in 1966 and spent some time in Spain. She lived with relatives in Massachusetts and Connecticut before settling in Elizabeth, New Jersey. She was a passionate seamstress and also worked making Christmas decorations. She touched the lives of many with her profound sense of warmth, love, and dedication which radiated to everyone around her. She always put others’ needs before hers, especially those of her family and friends. She was very dedicated to her Catholic religion attending mass every week and reciting the rosary every day. She was a regular at the Liberty Square Senior Center where she played dominoes, bingo, and participated in the daily exercises. Cusa lived a life full of love, laughter, and devotion. She enjoyed attending her great-grandchildren’s parties, sometimes participating in her
grandchildren’s drinking games!
Cusa was married to her deceased husband, Oscar G. Mujica, who passed away in1998. She is survived by her daughter Mercedes Fernandez and son Oscar J. Mujica. She also has five grandchildren Matthew Fernandez, Ashley Conneen, Justine Mujica,Brian Fernandez, Oscar M. Mujica, and four great-grandchildren Zoey Conneen Reagan Fernandez, Travis Conneen, and Eliza Fernandez.
Cusa was predeceased by her four siblings Jose “Pepito” Garcia and wife Dulce Garcia, Senen Garcia and wife Carolina, Aldo Garcia and wife Gladis Garcia, and Olga Bermudez and husband Manuel Bermudez. She was the final sibling to join the party in heaven!
There will be a visitation on Friday, August 29th from 4-8pm at the Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home followed a Catholic mass on Saturday, August 30th at 10am at St. Hedwig’s Church in Elizabeth, NJ.
Although Cusa is gone, she will live in hearts forever. She will be missed by everyone.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
