Colleen F Schweikert Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Colleen Schweikert, who left this world after a courageous nine-month battle with cancer. While her family is heartbroken by how quickly she was taken from them, they are deeply proud of the strength, determination, and grace she demonstrated throughout her illness.
Nearly a lifelong resident of Springfield, New Jersey, Colleen was a graduate of Jonathan Dayton High School. She spent many years working as a manicurist and receptionist at local salons, where her warm personality, infectious smile, and genuine care for others helped her build lasting friendships with clients and colleagues alike. More recently, she was employed by the Township of Westfield, where she continued to bring her kindness and welcoming spirit to those around her.
Colleen had a remarkable ability to light up any room she entered. Her smile and laughter were unforgettable, and she was known for being sociable, caring, empathetic, outspoken, and fiercely loyal to the people she loved and the values she held dear. Whether offering a listening ear, a word of encouragement, or simply sharing a laugh, she made everyone around her feel seen and heard.
Above all else, Colleen cherished being a mother. It was the role she loved most in life, and one she embraced with unwavering devotion. Her sons were the center of her world, and she loved them deeply and unconditionally. Throughout every stage of their lives, she was their greatest supporter, always encouraging them, believing in them, and doing everything in her power to ensure they had every opportunity to succeed and be happy. Even in her final days, her greatest concern was ensuring that her family would be okay when she could no longer be with them.
Colleen shared a loving and devoted relationship with her longtime partner, David Wightman. Together, they created countless cherished memories through their travels - to places like Newport, Rhode Island, Peddler’s Village and Cape May - and time spent with family and friends. Whether exploring a new town, sharing a meal at a favorite restaurant, or gathering with loved ones for dinner, Colleen and David treasured the simple joys of spending time together. Throughout her illness, David stood faithfully by her side every step of the way, providing unconditional love, comfort, and support.
Colleen was predeceased by her father, James McDonald. She is survived by her beloved sons, Matthew Schweikert (partner Karina Mejia), Ryan Schweikert (wife Erin Schweikert), and Kevin Schweikert (partner Katarina Lopes); her cherished grandson-on-the-way, James; her partner, David Wightman; her niece, Erika Connell; her nephew, Sean Connell; and many extended family members, friends, coworkers, and loved ones who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.
Though her time with us was far too short, the love she gave, the lives she touched, and the example she set will remain with those who knew her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered every day.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026 from 12:00pm to 4:00pm at Higgins and Bonner Funeral Home, Westfield, NJ 07090.
