Born in Queens, NY on April 25, 1949 to Anastasio and Eleni Hasterlis, Cynthia graduated from Saddle Brook High School in 1967 and then from Montclair State University in 1971 with a B.A. in art education. She married Gerard Boyle in 1983 and moved to Westfield, NJ that same year. They lived together in their home on Dorian Road for 32 years before relocating to Cranford, NJ.

Cynthia was a teacher to generations of students whom she cherished. She first worked as a teacher for the New Jersey Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired at their rehabilitation center in Newark. After taking a hiatus from her teaching career to focus on family life, Cynthia would eventually find a second career teaching pre-school for the Holy Trinity School District in Mountainside. Cynthia was a kind and gentle person. She will be remembered as a friend, teacher, grandmother, beloved mother and wife.
