Christopher J. McGinn, respected attorney at law, beloved brother, brother-in-law, uncle, friend and mentor passed away on Monday, March 1, 2021. He was 53 years old.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on March 13, 2021 at 10:00am at Our Lady of Lourdes RC Church, 300 Central Ave., Mountainside, NJ. A graveside service will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, NJ. Luncheon to follow at Ferraro’s restaurant in Westfield, NJ.
Chris was born on May 19, 1967 in Brooklyn, NY and raised in Westfield, NJ. At the time of his passing, he had resided in Hopewell, NJ for the past five years.
Chris was a graduate of Holy Trinity Grammar School, Union Catholic High School, and George Washington University. It was at GW he discovered his lifelong passion for political activism.
After college he went to work for the consumer advocacy group, Public Citizen, where he worked tirelessly for the next eight years.
Chris then returned to NJ, where he attended Rutgers University School of Law, Newark. He graduated in 2001 with honors and was awarded the American Bankruptcy Institute Medal of Excellence and Outstanding Scholastic Achievement Award in Criminal Law.
He returned to Washington, DC and went to work for the consumer and civil rights law firm, Mehri & Skallet. After several years, he returned to NJ where he joined the law firm of Galex & Wolf. In 2007, he left to open his own firm, The Law Offices of Christopher J. McGinn. A 2005 Member of the NJ State Bar Association and NJ State Bar Association Special Committee on Consumer Protection Law, Chris managed to settle an astonishing 54 class action cases on behalf of consumers.
Chris devoted his life and work to fighting consumer fraud and social injustice. He loved playing basketball, poker and chess with his many friends. He enjoyed traveling, movies, music and books.
He is predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Margaret McGinn. He leaves behind his brother Thomas McGinn, his sister-in-law, Colleen McGinn, and his four nephews, Shaun Hurley and his wife, Arianne and their son, Finnegan, Matthew McGinn and his partner, Gabriela Castelao Devesa, Thomas and Ryan McGinn.
Christopher was a longtime supporter of the Housing Initiatives of Princeton. In lieu of flowers, donations to HIP would be appreciated.
