Obituary
Joseph Christopher Dering, 62, known to everyone as Chris, beloved son of Robert and the late Patricia Dering, and brother of Robert of Cape Coral FL, Richard of Nipomo CA and David of Lawrenceville NJ, passed away Saturday July 8th at St Peters Hospital in New Brunswick NJ
Chris was a lifelong resident of Elizabeth and a fixture in the Elmora area. Chris worked for the Elizabeth School system for 30+ years, working in the school cafeteria, a job he loved. A member of St Genevieve’s parish, Chris attended mass every week without fail, crediting his Grandmother with his devotion. He loved playing his lottery every day, and dreaming about hitting the big one. A regular at Suspenders Restaurant and Pub, they always knew to serve him his usual, a glass (or two) of White Zinfandel.
Above all else, Chris loved his family. He knew every birthday and anniversary, and loved family get togethers. And we loved him too.
We will all miss his laugh (or cackle), his birthday and holiday cards, and his crazy “Chris humor” We will miss dinners at Suspenders, holidays together, phone calls and his wealth of family knowledge.
Chris is also survived by his nieces Jamie, Roxanne, Tina, Katie & Patty, and his nephew Ricky, as well as many cousins and friends.
