Carol Ann Chiari (nee McGarry) passed away peacefully on November 4th, 2022 surrounded by her family. Carol was born in Cranford, New Jersey to Walter and Anna McGarry. She was a 1964 graduate of Cranford High School and went on to attend Newark State College (now Kean University), graduating in 1968 with a Bachelor's Degree in science. After college, Carol worked as a civilian teacher on U.S. Air Force bases in Germany and Japan. When Carol returned to the United States, she worked as a teacher at Hillside Avenue school in Cranford. She later went on to study computer science and began a career as a computer analyst for Rutgers University, a position which she held until her retirement.
In 1974, Carol married the love of her life, Joseph Chiari. In 1981, they purchased their family home in the Elmora Hills section of Elizabeth, New Jersey. Carol was an active parishioner at Saint Genevieve Church in Elizabeth and was involved in multiple organizations such as Rosary Society, Helping Hands, Saint Genevieve’s Bowling League, EucharisticMinisters and the Annual Picnic Committee.
Carol and her husband were very active within their community. She hosted and treasured multiple gatherings with their friends and family. Carol enjoyed hosting holiday gatherings with her family and she especially enjoyed her afternoons of wine bottling and tastings.
Carol is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Joseph Chiari; her sons Jason Chiari and his wife Jenna, Ryan Chiari and his wife Jennifer, and her three adored grandchildren Joshua, Jeremy and Dominic Chiari. Surviving are her siblings Eugene McGarry and his wife JoAnn and sister Pamela Crowell. Carol was predeceased by her sister, Sharon McGarry.
