Camille M Pelaez, beloved daughter, wife, mother, and ‘Abuela’ passed away on February 3rd, 2022. She was 85years old.
Camille was born on October 17,1936 in Havana Cuba to Manuel Rodriguez and Hortensia Herrera. She had the typical life as a teenager and young adult performing clerical work until She met the love of her life (Emilio) at a New Years Eve Party in 1954 in Guanabo Beach.
They quickly fell in love and were married August 12th 1956and immigrated to the United States in 1957. Her and her husband spent the first part of their new American lives living first in Queens NY, then Brooklyn and then eventually settling in Rahway NJ where the lived in the same house for the next 45 years.
She was a devoted homemaker and would work in her son’s elementary school cafeteria. Mid-career is when she made the choice to help others in the community. First, she volunteered as a driver for Meals On Wheels and then later as a home health aide for 10 years. To Camille, herneighborhood was family.
Camille, like her husband enjoyed social gatherings of any kind. Whether it was square dancing or backyard BBQs.Camille especially cherished the time spent with their many friends at the Elizabeth Senior Center and were very devoted to her church St. Mary’s the Assumption
Camille and her husband enjoyed travelling with their friends. Such adventures led them to many countries such as Mexico, Spain, Hungary, Poland, Croatia, Czech Republic, Italy, Austria and many more.
Camille is survived by her son Mark, daughter in law Rebecca and granddaughters Emily and Ava. She also leaves behind her brother Manolito.
