Brian Stanley Obituary

Brian Stanley, 73, a lifelong resident of Westfield, passed away on April 27, 2026. After graduating from Westfield High School and Rider University, Brian began a 44-year career in community banking with United National Bank—based in Plainfield and later Bridgewater—as well as Magyar Bank in New Brunswick. He valued the many meaningful relationships his career provided with co-workers, customers, and membersof the community.

While working in Somerset County for many years, Brian’s community involvement included serving on the boards of the American Cancer Society and Alternatives, Inc. He also actively participated in annual fundraising events for the March of Dimes, Boy Scouts of America, and the Somerset Business Partnership. In Westfield, Brian served on the Finance Committee for the Parish Community of St. Helen and was a member of the Westfield School Booster Association.

Brian was blessed with many friends, including a group that gathered for annual winter and spring camping trips for over 50 years. In the early 2000s, he reconnected with a group of high school friends who had settled throughout the country. This led to a series of reunions held every three years, hosted by a member of the group in his home state.  Together, they enjoyed trips to Oregon, Florida, Texas, Idaho, North Carolina, and Long Beach Island, New Jersey.

The greatest joy in Brian’s life was time spent with his family: his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings, in-laws, nieces, and nephews. This included family vacations and camping trips throughout North America and Europe, as well as recurring trips tothe Jersey Shore and Culver Lake in Sussex County. He also cherished the many gatherings for holidays, birthdays, backyard barbecues, and Sunday dinners, where family and friends were always welcome to share good food, laughter, and love.

Brian was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Doris Stanley; his sister and brother- in-law, Patricia and Nicholas Keller; and his in-laws, Vincent and Jeanne Colvin. He is survived by the love of his life and “bride” of nearly 48 years, Lisa; his children, Michael (Colleen), Caitlin (Alexander), and Patrick (Jennifer); his grandchildren, Kieran James, Fiadh Cathleen, Jack Brian, Nora Elizabeth, Margaret Alexandra, Elia Rye, and Rosalie June; his brother, Kevin; his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Paul and Moira Porter, andMichael and Nancy Colvin; as well as many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association andChildFund International.
