Azella Bernadette (Crysler) O’Dwyer, 91, of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL (formerly of Scotch Plains, NJ) passed peacefully to the Lord’s arms on January 27, 2024. Azella was a devoted catholic, wife to Jeremiah D. O’Dwyer (deceased July 2003) for 49 years, mother, grandmother, aunt, biology teacher (Oak Knoll School of the Holy Child), humanitarian, and dog owner to countless boxers.
She is beloved by her son, Dennis D. O’Dwyer, her daughter-in-law, Ping (Li) O’Dwyer, her grandson Jerry O’Dwyer, her nieces and nephews and countless friends. She is preceded in death by her father, Clarence Crysler, mother Azella (Jones) Crysler, sisters Dorothy DeVine, Virginia Flannigan, Catherine Rowe, and brother, Clarence Crysler, Jr.
She was born in New York, NY but she was a “Jersey Girl”, She loved the Jersey Shore and teaching Oceanography to all her young scientists. She loved waterskiing across the Barnegat Bay. She loved to read and playing bridge with her friends. She attended game 7 of the 1955 World Series to see her beloved Brooklyn Dodgers beat their rival NY Yankees. She saw Pope John Paul say mass at that very same stadium. Her’s is a life to be celebrated, rejoice on her journey to the heavens!
There will be a funeral mass at St. Theresa of Avila in Summit NJ on Friday, February 2, 2024 at 9:30 AM followed by a burial at St. Teresa of Avila Cemetery.
