Avi Breidbord Obituary

Avi (Aviram) Breidbord, age 70, passed away with his loving family by his side on Thursday, July 28, 2022, at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, NJ.

Born in Haifa, Israel, he grew up in Passaic, NJ, and in 1989 moved to Livingston, NJ, where he resided with his family for the remainder of his life.

As a young seven-year-old boy when his family relocated from Israel, he learned to speak, read, and write English (in addition to his native language of Hebrew), and later he became a naturalized U.S. citizen. Although he only occasionally returned to visit his birthplace, his heart and soul passionately remained with Israel, every day, throughout his life. He maintained a strong emotional connection to Israel, was well versed in its history and current events, and unabashedly demonstrated pride in his Israeli identity. At the funeral service, an Israeli flag was draped over his coffin, the same one that had been draped over his father’s coffin in 2009.

Avi graduated from Passaic High School, Rutgers University (B.S. Accounting), and New Jersey Institute of Technology (M.S. Computer Science); he had a long and successful career in information technology. He held positions in a wide variety of industries—accounting, finance, insurance, healthcare—and he had a sizeable home-office technical library to match. He was high-energy, intense, and quality-driven in his approach. He became a Project Management Professional (PMP-certified) in his pursuit of excellence in the field. He spent several years working in IBM’s Global Services division, implementing team solutions for major clients. In his private time, he successfully developed a unique software package for transactional financial modeling.

He was predeceased by his father, Aron Breidbord, and his mother, Aliza (Amitay) Breidbord. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Robin (Prebut) Breidbord. He is survived also by his son, Jonathan Breidbord; his daughter Jessica Breidbord Sharon and his son-in-law Guy Sharon; his sisters, Iris Langman (Alan) and Eleanor Silverman (Philip); and his sister-in-law, Marcy Prebut.

He was a devoted, loving husband and father who was fiercely protective of the safety and wellbeing of his family. He instinctively knew how to assemble or fix just about anything. He was the problem-solver everyone else relied on. He was charming and likeable, generous in every way, accomplished but humble, and tenacious every day of his life—right up to the very end. His memory is an inspiration and he will continue to be a guiding influence for us all.

A private funeral service and burial was held on Sunday, July 31, 2022, at Mount Lebanon Cemetery in Iselin, NJ.
