Antonius Genakos, beloved husband of Irene (nee Frangos), who predeceased him in 2014, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, January 21, 2022.
Tony, as he was known to friends and family, was a trained electrical engineer who ultimately found his way to a 25-year career in public service and law enforcement with the FBI. Retiring with the title of Deputy Assistant Director of Congressional and Public Affairs at FBI Headquarters, he then accepted a position with The New York Times, where he stayed for 15 years, ending as Director of Development, covering printing facilities in Edison, NJ, Manhattan and College Point, NY. He considered himself very fortunate to have worked for two organizations that are leaders in their respective fields.
Above and beyond his many professional accomplishments, Tony was a man of great heart and integrity and was proudest of his roles as beloved husband, father, Papou and great-Papou. He is survived by his loving daughters, Magdalaina and Marianna, grand-daughter, Jesse (and David), great-granddaughter, Daphne, sister-in-law, Antoinette Genakos, and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was the fifth child of Peter and Magdalene Genakos (nee Kouskouras) and is predeceased by his siblings, George, Steve, Dino, Helen and Athena.
The funeral service will be held at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Westfield, NJ, at 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, followed by interment at Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the charity of your choice.
