Anne Marie Mitchell
Anne Marie Mitchell, aged 89, a cherished long-time resident of Belle Mead, NJ, and Lewes, DE, passed away peacefully in hospice care on Monday, May 15, at Sunrise Senior Living in Westfield, NJ.
Born on June 16, 1934, in Brooklyn, NY, to the late Joaquin and Mary Ortega Figueiredo, Anne grew up in Haworth, NJ, and graduated from Dumont High School. In 1959, she married her beloved husband, Steve, and they initially made their home in Haworth before relocating to Belle Mead in 1971. There, they raised their three children with love and dedication. As her children grew older, Anne began working as a coder at Response Analysis in Princeton, NJ.
After the passing of her husband in 1993, Anne moved to the Briarwood community in Lewes, where she lived until 2022. She then returned to New Jersey to be closer to her children and grandchildren.
Affectionately known as "Cookie" to her friends and family, Anne was indeed a tough cookie, never shy about expressing her opinions and always direct. She had a deep love for her family and friends and enjoyed reading, gardening, holiday cooking, and playing Mahjong. Later in life, she embraced the role of "Grammy," taking immense pride in each of her eight grandchildren.
Anne is preceded in death by her beloved spouse, Steve Mitchell. She is survived by her brother John, her sister Jeannie, her three loving children: Scott (Chris), Lisa (Liam), and Todd (Mara), and her eight adored grandchildren: Abby, Connor (Hallie), Ryan (Meg), Lauren, Leah, Max, Eli, and Lucas. Anne was also dearly loved by Lucky the Dog.
A celebration of Anne's life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Anne's memory to the Alzheimer's Association.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Sunrise Senior Living and to all the incredible people who lovingly cared for "Mitchey" in the last several months of her life.
