Anna (Gargiulo) Savarese

Anna Savarese (nee. Gargiulo) of Roselle Park died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on December 2, 2020 in Summit, New Jersey at the age of 75.

Anna was preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years Pietro Savarese. She is survived by her devoted children John Savarese, Anthony Savarese and Alessandra Savarese Bonacchiand husband Giorgio; beloved grandchildren Annamaria, Giulianna, Hunter, and Gianluca; her brother Salvatore Gargiulo, nieces Giuseppina Esposito & Imma Esposito whom she loved like her own daughters. along with many other treasured family members and friends in Italy and the United States.

She is preceded in death by her parents Luigi and Assunta Gargiulo and brother Giuseppe Gargiulo.  

Anna was born on February 28, 1945 in Sorrento, Italy.  She married her love Pietro on December 10, 1966.  Together they owned and operated restaurants in Italy before bringing their culinary gifts to the United States. Named after their beloved hometown, the family’s Torna A Sorrento Ristorante in Elizabeth, New Jersey is a special place where customers became precious members of their family.  Together with her children they will lovingly honor her memory there and her legacy will live on.  

Anna’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her adoring grandchildren.  She lovingly helped raise them and words cannot express how much the children loved their Nonna.  At home Anna also enjoyed spoiling her dogs Sarah, Rudy, and Ryker.  Her kind heart endeared her to all who were blessed to meet her, especially her dear friends Gail, Bonnie and Linda who lovingly helped care for her in her final days.  She will live on in the memories held in the hearts of her beloved family and friends.

Due to Covid gathering restrictions and to protect everyone a small memorial mass for Anna’s family is scheduled for Thursday, December 10 at 10:00 am at St. Genevieve’s Church, 200 Monmouth Road, Elizabeth, New Jersey.  A larger celebration of her life will be planned when it is once again safe for everyone to gather.
