Andrew R. Saporito, 93, passed away on March 13, 2019, at Rahway Hospital.
Born in Jersey City, NJ, He lived most of his life in Elizabeth. He served in the United States Army in World War II. He attended the University of Miami and graduated from Seton Hall University. He received his masters degree from Newark State College (Kean University). He was a teacher in the Elizabeth and Newark school systems, retiring in 1991.
A true renaissance man, he enjoyed a variety of interests including opera, crossword puzzles, gardening, horse racing, running, and trips to the beach whether Sandy Hook or Martha's Vineyard. He enjoyed acting and supported and participated in community theater including the Attic Ensemble of Jersey City. He was active in St. Genevieve Church, serving as a lector at Sunday Mass. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Frances, and his brothers Dominic, Vance, and Anthony. He is survived by his sister Frances of NC, children Michele Panich and her husband Michael of Cranford, NJ, and Richard Saporito and his wife Aileen of Bristol, CT. He is also survived by his grandchildren Molly Neff (Edward), Daniel Frieri (fiancé Jessamy Kalista), Caitlin Saporito (fiancé Andrew Morris), Angelina Saporito, and Robert Saporito, and great grandchildren Andrew Neff and Dahlia Neff. He is also survived by a large number of dear family and friends.
