Alexander (Al) Hamaty, Jr. of Howell, New Jersey passed away suddenly at the age of
63 on April 4, 2025.
He was born in Brooklyn, New York on January 5, 1962, and grew up in Bay Ridge. He
graduated from Fort Hamilton High School in 1980 and then enlisted in the U.S. Marine
Corps, where he served for four years before being honorably discharged in 1984. He
then followed in his father’s footsteps by pursuing a career in law enforcement. He
worked as a police officer for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey for 26
years, including tours at the Port Authority Bus Terminal, the World Trade Center and
the Goethals Bridge, before retiring in 2012.
Al loved being a Marine and a cop, riding his motorcycles, tinkering with his cars,
traveling and sightseeing, barbecuing, getting out on the dance floor, cracking jokes at
every turn and always being the life of the party. Heaven is a louder place since he got
there.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alexander and Geraldine (nee Sullivan)
Hamaty. He is survived by his four children, Kristi, Alexander III, Brianna and Tyler; his
four grandchildren, Sophia, Joshua Jr., Olivia and Alexander IV; his sister, Patricia Tice;
his brother, Christopher Hamaty; and countless nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was laid to eternal rest in a private ceremony at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield,
New Jersey.
