Steven T. Smith

Steve Smith of Cranford, NJ was “one of the good ones”; friendly, caring and generous. Steve died peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones, from complications of prostate cancer on October 1, 2017. Visitation will be on Thursday, October 5th from 4pm-8pm at Higgins and Bonner Funeral Home in Westfield, NJ. Prayer service will be held Friday morning, October 6th, at 10:30am at Higgins and Bonner with burial service to follow at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, NJ. Steve retired after a 35-year career with the Atlantic Pacific Tea Co. (A&P); and later spent his free time rebuilding and overseeing operations at a number of horse farms across New Jersey. Horses were a passion he shared with his daughter, Lisa. Steve was also an avid hunter, fisherman, gun collector and all around handy man. He was friendly, warm, caring and generous and will be missed by many. Steve was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He is survived by his wife Michele of 40 years. He is predeceased by his son Christopher and survived by his son Michael and wife Jennifer; and his daughter Lisa and her boyfriend, Hugo. Steve was also the proud grandfather of four grandchildren Christopher Michael (19), Kai Grayson (8), Kenna Elise (4) and Ella Piper (3).
