Steven Manos, 93, born in Jersey City and resident of Westfieldfor 48 years, passed away on September 28th, 2018, peacefully at home surrounded by family. Visitation will be Sunday September 30th, 3-7 PM at Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Avenue, Westfield. Funeral, Monday October 1st, 11 AM at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 250 Gallows Hill Road Westfield. Internment, Fairview Cemetery.
He had a long career in the telecommunication industry starting with Bell Laboratories, West Street, NYC in 1952, and retiring as a senior engineer from Lucent Technologies in 1992. He received a US patent in 1968 for a twin plug connector. He attended Stevens Institute of Technology – Industries Training School and Newark College of Engineering.
A proud WWII veteran he served in the 5th Army Air Corps, as a Staff Sergeant, in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations, operating radar and radio equipment on C46 aircraft. He was awarded 4 battle stars. He was also the recipient of the State of New Jersey, Distinguished Service Medal.
Survived by his devoted wife Barbara, daughter, Ellen Athenson(Peter), son, Paul Manos, PhD., and grandchildren, David Peter Athenson and Lia Rose Manos. An active member of Holy Trinity church, the American Legion- Hellenic Post #440,AHEPA and the ROMEOs. He was an avid stamp collector since childhood and enjoyed golf, crossword puzzles and old movies.
