Robert Owen O’Connor III
Bob passed away peacefully at his home in Basking Ridge on March 4, 2019.
Born in the Bronx and raised in Park Slope and Manhasset, NY, Bob graduated from Saint Mary’s High School and Marist College.
A committed educator and a member of the Roselle Catholic High School community for over 40 years, he touched hundreds of lives as an English teacher, French teacher, Psychology teacher, Vice Principal, and retiring as Guidance Director.
Bob’s intellectual curiosity knew no bounds. A historian by avocation, he was a passionate researcher and friends and family relied on him to know the answer, no matter the question. Bob delighted in words and language and was never without something to read. His personal library numbers in the hundreds. A love for classical music began in his teens with old records he discovered in a thrift shop and continued throughout his life.
Bob had a spirit of adventure and was always game for anything. A road trip to Canada at the drop of a hat; a quick run over to the Cyclone rollercoaster in Coney Island; hide and seek in the Metropolitan Museum of Art; and proudly marching with Armagh County up Fifth Avenue on Saint Patrick’s Day with his family.
Bob was predeceased by his father, Robert Jr. and is survived by his mother Patricia, his sister Kate, his two brothers P.J. and Michael, as well as his sisters-in-law Jeanne and Karen, nephew Patrick and nieces Kiera, Maggie, Maureen, Devin and Kelliann and a multitude of friends.
