Rita D'Anna

Rita D’Anna, 79, of Mountainside was taken from us on June 6, 2019. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 10, 2019 from 5 to 8 PM at the Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Ave., Westfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes RC Church in Mountainside.  Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.  As an expression of sympathy,  contributions can be made to one of the following organizations that were very dear to Rita's heart; Children's Specialized Hospital of Mountainside (www.childrens-specialized.org) or St. Jude's Children's Hospital (www.stjude.org).

Mrs. D’Anna was one of 11 siblings, born in Montagano, Italy and moved to America when she was 15 years old.  Her first job after coming to the United States was working as a seamstress. She was married for 56 years to her late husband, Domenick.  Her passion was always for children, she worked at Deerfield Elementary school in Mountainside as a paraprofessional. 

Mrs. D’Anna was a loving spouse and mother. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. She also loved parties, singing and dancing, especially with her husband Domenick.  

Surviving are her daughters, Carmel Horinka (Tom), Cecilia Walsh (Chris) and Laura D’Anna, and her son, Joseph D’Anna (Carmela), her grandchildren, Brittany, Dominique, Joseph, Lilyana, John and Mateo, her sister, Carmela Ellis (Mike) and her brothers, Antonio, Joseph (Barbara), and Alessandro (Peggy) Fiorillo.
