Raymond P. Babineau

January 7, 1921 ~ January 7, 2018 (age 97) 97 Years Old

Raymond P. Babineau died on January 7th in Summit, New Jersey on his 97th birthday.  He is predeceased by his wife of nearly 50 years, Irene (Moisan) Babineau, as well as four sisters and three brothers.  He is survived by his loving companion, Monica Ouellette, and his two children, Suzanne (David Ames) and Paul (Anne) along with five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Babineau was born in Palmer, MA, son of Arthur and Alexina (Plouffe) Babineau.  He attended Assumption Preparatory School and graduated in 1938.  By 1941, he had joined the Army and became one of the youngest staff sergeants in the Army Air Corps serving his country until 1947.  After leaving the service, he began a long career with the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company from 1947 until 1980.

He spent 56 years of his life in Indian Orchard, MA where he was a member of St. Aloysius Parish serving as a Lector for many years.  He was also a President of the local Lions Club.  He recently resided in Belchertown, MA for 12 years until 2015.

He was a caring man, a devoted friend, and a loving and humorous father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. 

Visiting hours will be Friday, January 12th from 4 to 8 pm at Higgins and Bonner Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Ave, Westfield, NJ.  The funeral will be Saturday, January 13 at 11 am at St. Helen’s Church, 1600 Rahway Ave, Westfield, NJ.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Perkins Talking Book Library, 175 North Beacon Ave, Watertown, MA 02472.
