It is with great sadness that the family of Nicholas Pappas, 71, announces his passing on Sunday, September 16, 2018, surrounded by his family at his home in Florham Park, NJ. Nicholas was born in Thisvi, Greece and immigrated to New Jersey in 1969. By trade Nicholas was a restaurateur, but his true passion was soccer. He was a star player in Greece, where he turned down a professional contract to move to America. He continued to pursue his passion for soccer, playing whenever he could for various leagues. Later, he coached and mentored young athletes at Drew University, in Madison NJ, for many years. Nicholas is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Aglaia (nee Koundouriotis), his children Mia Piluso and Christos Pappas, their spouses Steven and Lisa, and his grandsons, or as he called them his “ethopioi” (stars) Thomas and Nikolas.
Visitation will take place at Higgins & Bonner Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Avenue, Westfield, NJ, from 4-8pm on Tuesday, September 18, 2018. A funeral service in memory of Nicholas will be held on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at 11:00 a.m., at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church on 250 Gallows Hill Rd. in Westfield. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, NJ.
