Kindergarten Teacher Mary Quinn
Mary Kathleen Yoerger Quinn, 92, passed into eternal rest on Wednesday, October 23rd after a brief illness. She was born in Elizabeth, NJ on June 11, 1927 to Margaret and Teddy Yoerger
A bright student, she won the Bishop’s Medal as an eight grader at St. Mary’s School in Elizabeth, the only pupil to do so, which resulted in the school declaring a half-day holiday for the whole student body.
Mary earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Newark State Teacher’s College and had a stellar career teaching kindergarten at School 14, School 19, and Victor Mravlag School 21 in Elizabeth.
In 1960 she married her husband Francis who died in 2018
Surviving are her daughter, Carolyn Quinn from Bay Ridge, NY, nephew Joseph Quinn and wife Blanca of Toms River, NJ, several more nieces and nephews and plenty of former kindergarten students.
Visitation will be on Friday, October 25, 2019,from 4 to 8 PM at Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Ave., Westfield, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at 10:00 AM at St. Helen’s RC Church, Westfield, NJ. Interment will follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia, NJ.
