Joan M. Byrne

Joan M. Byrne, age 81, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Nov 26, 2019, at Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ.

Joan is survived by her husband, Jack Byrne Sr.; six children, Jack Jr. and wife Susan, Eileen, Kathy, Nancy, Michael and wife Lisa, and Kelly; 11 grandchildren; 8 great ­grandchildren; brother, Ralph Hill Jr.; and sister, Merrily Smith.

Joan was born on Aug 22, 1938, in Elizabeth, NJ to Ralph Sr. and Mary Hill. She was married to her high school sweetheart, Jack, for 60 years.

Her most important role was as a devoted mother to her six children creating a beautiful home where all felt truly welcomed. Her door was always open, and a place always open at her table. She will be deeply missed by all who love her.

Services will be held Sun, Dec 1, 4pm - 8pm at Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Ave., Westfield. A mass will be held at 9:30am at St. Michael's Church in Cranford. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations to Atlantic Hospice in Summit, NJ.
