Jane Lape

Jane Lape Longtime Elizabeth resident and great-grandmother Jane Lape passed away on Dec. 9, 2017. The viewing will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Ave., Westfield, N.J. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment is in Fairview Cemetery, Westfield. Born on Oct. 17, 1926, in Newark, N.J., Jane graduated from Our Lady of Good Counsel Grammar School, Newark. She worked for New Jersey Bell Telephone in Newark as a switchboard operator. She married James J. Lape in 1945 as he returned from service in World War II. They had two sons, James and Thomas Lape. The family lived in Elizabeth, N.J., for 40-plus years. Jane worked at the former Saint Elizabeth's Hospital in Elizabeth for 10 years on the switchboard. She retired from the former Elizabethtown Gas Company after 20-plus years. Jane moved to Mountainside, N.J., in 1998 and lived with her oldest son and daughter-in-law until 2015, when she moved to Chelsea Assisted Living in Toms River, N.J. Jane was an active bingo player for many years. She loved trips to the Jersey Shore. Jane took an active grandparenting role with her beloved granddaughters, Megan and Erin. The birth of Jane's great-grandson, Brian, brought a smile to her face as she FaceTimed with him.
