Israel Carreras died on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at his home in Elizabeth, NJ. Visitation will be at the Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Avenue, Westfield, N.J. on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. www.higginsandbonner.com The funeral will be held at Saints Nicholas, Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 80 Laurel Avenue, Roseland, NJ on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. Please meet directly at church. Born in Juncos, Puerto Rico, on August 7, 1932, Israel moved to New Jersey in 1955, after serving two years in The National Guard. On May 16, 1959, he married Theodora Carreras, and they settled in Elizabeth, N.J. In 1960, he began working at Ford Motor Company, retiring in 1999 after 39 years of dedicated service. Israel was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many. He is survived by his wife, Theodora Carreras of Elizabeth, N.J., his daughters, Ann Faith Talbot (Jim Talbot) of Elizabeth, N.J., Maria Carreras Kourepenos (Kerry Kourepenos) of New York City, and Stephanie Carreras Kotrady (Joseph Kotrady) of Pompano Beach, Florida; and his four grandchildren, Peter James Talbot, Alexa Grace Kourepenos, Ariana Eve Kourepenos and Ellery Faith Kourepenos. Israel was also the father of Perry Israel Carreras, who passed away on April 15, 2013.
