Gizella (Franz) Mullen, 97, passed away on October 30, 2018. Visitation will be on Saturday, November 3, 2018 from 4 to 8 PM at Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Ave., Westfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 5, 2018, 10:00AM at St. Genevieve RC Church, 200 Monmouth Road, Elizabeth, NJ. Interment will follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia.

Gizella was born on January 13, 1921 in Elizabeth, New Jersey, where she lived until moving to Union in 1938. She worked as Secretary to the Business Manager of the Elizabeth Board of Education for many years before retiring in 1983. She enjoyed reading, trips to Atlantic City and watching a variety of  sporting events, but especially those played by her grandchildren and great-granddchildren. 

Mrs. Mullen is predeceased by her husband, Thomas J. Mullen (Timmy), her parents, Jacob and Elizabeth (Kish) Francz, her sister Helen (Ilonka) David, and her brothers John Franz, Louis Franz and Jake Franz.

She was a devoted mother to children, Nancy Mullen and Thomas J. Mullen,  cherished grandmother of grandchildren, Krista and Mike Messenkopf, Jeff and Diane Mullen, Dana Komar, David and Theresa Komar, and Jaime and Hunter Freeman, and beloved great-grandmother of Brynley, Taylor and Kaia Freeman, Kayden, Christian, Grayson and Lachlan Komar, Jack Stoltz, Joseph and Lina Mullen, and Ryan and Michael Messenkopf.
