Eileen Teresa Manning (O’Donovan) passed away peacefully on December 26, 2019 in Ashburn, Virginia at the age of 82 after a brief illness. Eileen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, cousin and friend to many throughout New Jersey, Virginia and her beloved homeland of Ireland.
Eileen was born in Cork, Ireland on January 10, 1937 and wasthe daughter of John and Mary (Regan) O’Donovan. In 1961, Eileen married her husband, Cornelius (Con) Manning in Ireland and later emigrated with him to the United States in 1962. After numerous moves throughout the United States, Eileen and Con settled in Elizabeth, New Jersey, where they raised their two sons, Vincent and Neil.
Immensely proud of her home country, Eileen returned to Ireland every year to visit her family and friends. She also volunteered at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Elizabeth, New Jersey for over 25 years and made a positive impact on all she encountered. After moving to Virginia, Eileen began volunteering at St. Theresa Catholic Church and made many friends there. Eileen loved baking and especially enjoyed making her jams. She was also a talented knitter and was well known for the beautiful scarves she made for her family and friends.
Eileen was predeceased by her husband, Cornelius of 26 years in 1987. She is survived by her two sons, Vincent and Neil, as well as her two daughters-in-law, Deborah and Melissa and her two beloved granddaughters, Katie and Cara.
Visitation will be held from 4 – 8 PM on Sunday, December 29, 2019 at Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home in Westfield, New Jersey. A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Genevieve Catholic Church in Elizabeth, New Jersey on Monday, December 30, 2019 immediately followed by burial at St. Gertrude’s Cemetery in Colonia, New Jersey.
