Dolores McCabe Obituary

Dolores McCabe, 94

Dolores (Dee) McCabe, aged 94, died peacefully on February 3, 2018 at the Center for Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains after a brief illness.  Dee was born on November 27, 1923 in Elizabeth, NJ, daughter of Helen Murphy and George Smith.

Dee lived the first 68 years of her life in Elizabeth, NJ but retired to Toms River, NJ in 1996.  After high school, Dee joined the thousands of other young women working on assembly lines to fill the roles left behind by young men serving in World War II.  At the end of the war, Dee left her job to marry her soldier, James T. McCabe.  The couple was married for 59 years until Jim’s passing in 2004.

In addition to raising four children, Dee worked in the Accounting Department of the Boyle Midway Company in Cranford for more than twenty years.  Dee was a long-time member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Elizabeth and later belonged to St Maximilian’s  in Toms River where she was a Eucharistic Minister.

Dee is survived by her four children:  Carol Sharp of Cranford, James P. McCabe of South Plainfield, Mary Csakai of Nashua, NH and Maureen Notaroberto of Trenton; two siblings:  Alice Stulpin of Winfield Park and John Smith of Iselin along with seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.  In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the Center for Hope Hospice, 1900 Raritan Road, Scotch Plains, NJ 07076.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2018 11:00AM at Church of the Assumption in Roselle Park.
