Dianne Elizabeth Maher
February 19, 1948 - August 12, 2019
On August 12, 2019, Dianne Maher passed away comfortably after a heroic battle with cancer. Dianne was born in Newark and raised in Linden. A wonderful woman, Dianne inspired her family and touched the souls of everyone she knew with her altruism and gentle spirit. Dianne will always be cherished for her unique ability to lead and motivate her family and friends to maximize their potential in life.
Dianne's desire to contribute her talents and creative mind led to her starting a successful Halloween show at Cranford High School in 2000, called Happy Hauntings, and it continues to this day. This project's proceeds were donated towards the Senior Prom every year, and Dianne and her cast of fellow volunteering parents and students provided tremendous joy and rewards to the community.
Dianne graduated from Caldwell College and continued her education at Seton Hall University, where she achieved a Master's Degree in Education. Pursuing her calling, instilled from an early age as a ballet instructor, Dianne became a teacher and was revered for her passionate devotion to her students and her craft.
After her teaching career, Dianne dedicated her selfless focus to raising her three children, Brian, Patrick, and Meghan, and being a mother who taught invaluable lessons about life and love.
Dianne leaves behind her loving husband of forty five years, Lawrence Maher, a partner with whom she established a beautiful life. She was a proud grandmother of Finn and caring mother in law of her son Patrick's wife, Emilie. Dianne also leaves behind her sister, Barbara Sabo, and her husband, James Sabo, and her nephew Jimmy and niece Stacey.
Services will be held Thursday, August 15, 2019, at Higgins & Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home in Westfield, NJ from 7-9pm, and a Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, August 16, 2019, at St. Genevieve Church in Elizabeth, NJ at 11am.
