William C. Anthes

William C. Anthes, passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2017 surrounded by his family at Center of Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains, New Jersey. Mr. Anthes was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey in 1919. Predeceased by his wife, Doris M. Jones, parents Louis and Anna, sister Sister Ann Louis, OSB (Rita), sister Mary Von Ohlen, brothers Louis, Joseph and Fred. He volunteered immediately when World War II broke out and served in the US Coast Guard. He was chief auto mechanic for Union County Buick in Elizabeth, N.J., operated an Atlantic gas station also in Elizabeth, and worked for New Departure Hyatt in Clark, N.J., from which he retired in 1977. He is survived by his wife Jean Anthes (Capobianco). his brother Adam (Alice) of Edison, his beloved daughters, Joan C. Jankunas (Thomas) of Cranford, N.J., Patricia M. Kurzweil of Colonia, N.J., and his beloved son, William R. Anthes of Torrington, CT. He is survived by four granddaughters: Kimberly Horvath (Robert) of Clark, N.J., Kerry Daddato (Frank) of Manalapan, N.J., Jennifer Surmay (Gary) of Cranford, N.J., and Alison Moffitt (Michael) of Scottsdale, AZ. He loved his nine great grandchildren: Ryan, Evan and Matthew Surmay; Kaelyn and Caroline Moffitt; Jamie Lee and Robert Horvath and Frankie and Briana Daddato. He is also survived by 13 nieces and 7 nephews.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 27, 2017 from 3-7p.m., at Higgins and Bonner Funeral Home 582 S. Springfield, Avenue, Westfield, N.J. 07090. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Genevieve's Church, 200 Monmouth Road, Elizabeth, N.J. 07208 on Monday, August 28th at10am followed by internment at St. Gertrude's Cemetery 53 Inman Avenue, Colonia, N.J. 07067.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Camp Nejeda (a diabetic camp for children with type one diabetes) P.O. Box 156, Stillwell, N.J. 07875 in our loved one's name.
