Theresa K. Sauerborn

Theresa K. Sauerborn, 93, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at Autumn Lake Healthcare at Berkeley Heights surrounded by her loving family.

Theresa was born in Würzburg, Germany, on February 23, 1924, to the late Frank and Anna Kohlhepp.  The family moved to Roselle Park when she was 3 years old.  She graduated from Roselle Park High School in 1942 and went to work at Weston Electric in Newark where she met her future husband Arthur W. Sauerborn.  They married on September 21, 1947, and in 1953 they moved to Mountainside, NJ where they had five children, Donald, Diane, James, Edward and Janice.  The family became members of the Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Mountainside, upon its inception.  Theresa was a longtime member of the Rosary Alter Society.

Theresa returned to the workforce after raising their children, and became secretary to both the Mountainside Chief of Police and the Municipal Court Clerk’s Office.  She served regularly as an election Poll worker.  She was also an active member of the Mountainside Foothill Club for many years.  Her love of Church and community led her to become an adorer in the Our Lady of Lourdes Perpetual Adoration Chapel and volunteer for the Mountainside Children’s Specialized Hospital and Mountainside Recreation Department.   

Theresa was predeceased by Arthur, her loving husband of 60 years in 2008, her younger brother Frederick Kohlhepp (2017), her beloved son Edward (2004), and her beloved daughter Diane Maslo (2005).    She is survived by her sons, Donald and James; her daughter, Janice and her husband Arthur Minch; her daughter-in-law, Virginia Sauerborn; and her cousin Richard Landvatter.  Theresa is also survived by her sisters-in-law Delores Sauerborn and June Kohlhepp, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Friday, September 22nd from 3 to 7 p.m at the Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Ave., Westfield.   A service will be held at the funeral home Saturday, September 23rd, at 9:00 am and followed by a 10 a.m. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 300 Central Avenue in Mountainside.  The burial service will follow at the Fairview Cemetery, 1100 E Broad St, Westfield, NJ 07090.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Mountainside Rescue Squad.
