Nikolas Agathis passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 9 at the age of 85. Surrounded by his family, Nik was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and brother. Born in Salonica, Greece in 1931, he joined the Greek Air Force at the age of 16, and the Merchant Marines at the age of 20. Coming to the United States in his mid-twenties, he started working in the transportation industry as a bus mechanic and would eventually establish Olympia Trails Bus Company. Nik was also a kind and generous man. He was always there for a friend or even a stranger in need. His unwavering kindness, generosity, humility and philanthropy was recognized by the Greek Orthodox Church with him being accepted as Archon of the Ecumenical Patriarch, Order of St Andrew the Apostle.
Always there to give advice and help his family, Nik was gifted at sharing life lessons through stories of his experiences. He had unparalleled dedication and love for his family and friends. Nik is survived by his wife, Sophia; his three sons and their wives, William and Allyson, Michael and Roula, and Nickolas and Maria; his twelve grandchildren; and his three sisters, Eleni, Georgia, and Olga. He is predeceased by his father, Theophilos; his mother Anna; and his brother Panagiotis.
