Nicolau V. Martinho, 92, of Edison, our beloved father and grandfather, crossed over to the light of the Lord on November 10, 2016.  He has been surrounded by his family sharing love and fond memories over the last few days. Quite simply he was our hero. He represented the very best of us.

Viewing will be held on Sunday, November 13, 2016 from 2 to 6 PM at the Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Ave., Westfield.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 14, 2016 at 11:00AM at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church in Elizabeth.  Entombment will follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia.

A loving and devoted son and brother who dreamed of a life of purpose and service. A proud veteran of World War II who bravely fought in the D-Day invasion. An immigrant small business owner who worked tirelessly and embodied the spirit of this country he loved. He sponsored and supported the American dream for so many friends and families. A devoted husband to his wife of 71 years who he passionately doted over. An incredible father that loved his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren with boundless energy.

He was a member of Disabled American Veterans and was a lifetime member of The Portuguese Instructive Social Club in Elizabeth.

Mr. Martinho is survived by his wife, Mireille (Souza) Martinho, His daughters, Vivian Baeta and her husband Antonio and Rosemarie Lach and her husband Bruce, her grandchildren, Anthony and his wife Tammy, Christina, Jacqueline and Brian, his great-grandchildren, Cristina and Nicolas and his brother Manuel.

We will miss him every day but are comforted in knowing he leaves this world leaving nothing unsaid, no wine undrunk, no laughs unshared, and no one in his life unsure of how much he loved them. Heaven has another angel today.

We love you Poppa – Rest in peace.
