Mary Jane Coulbourn Haiback passed away peacefully at her home at the Greens at Cannondale residence in Wilton, CT on Saturday morning, March 18th. She was 89 years old. Viewing will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 from 4 to 8 PM at the Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Ave., Westfield, NJ. www.higginsandbonner.com A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at 10:30 AM at the funeral home.
Mary Jane was born on an incredibly hot day in Baltimore, Maryland on July 27th, 1927 to Ruth Murphy Coulbourn and William Calvin Coulbourn. She grew up in Scotch Plains, NJ where she graduated from Scotch Plains High and was an active member of the women’s varsity basketball team and the drama club. She went on to complete a secretarial course of study at the Berkeley School in NJ and immediately secured a position in NY for the CEO of a major, international, shipping company.
She met the love of her life, Albert Haiback at the NJ shore, and was married on August 4, 1956. She became a homemaker and raised three children in Summit, NJ. She and Al moved to Wilton, CT in 2007 where she re-ignited her passion for performing in several talent shows hosted by The Greens at Cannondale. Her happy renditions of several Broadway favorites including “Hello Dolly”, “Moon River” and “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend” were popular with all of her neighbors and she was also featured in the Wilton Villager.
She is survived by her sister Nancy Coulbourn Ike of Cincinnati, her three children, Kim Clyne of Norwalk, CT, Will and Donna Haiback of Basking Ridge, NJ, Albert and Barbara Haiback of Manhattan and her grandchildren, William, Thomas, Hugh, Cecilia, Alex, Cole, Owen and Ava.
