Lawrence J. (Jimmy) Bonner, 61 (Retired Hillside Police Detective), of Toms River, NJ, passed away on Friday, September 29,2017, after a brief illness. Viewing will be held Wed., Oct.4,2017 from 4-8 at Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Ave., Westfield. A service will take place on Thurs., Oct 5 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Gertrude's Cemetery, 53 Inman Ave., Colonia, NJ.
Born to Lawrence and Mary Ann in Elizabeth, he attended Edison High School where he graduated with honors in 1974, mastering the trade of carpentry.
He started his dedicated police career as a special police officer for the Township of Union Police Department. He became a Hillside patrolman in 1985 and graduated from the Union County Police Chief's Training Academy. As a patrolman, he excelled in performance and became a training officer for many new officers, patiently guiding them to success. He was promoted to detective in 1995. During his 25 years of devoted service, Jimmy received many letters of commendation and service awards for his dedicated service. He was a member of the NJ State Policeman's Benevolent Assoc. and the NJ Fraternal Order of Police where he served as an advisor and Officer on the Executive Board.
Jimmy is predeceased by his Dad in 2005 and his Mom in 2017.He leaves behi nd his loving brother, Michael; sister, Lisa; son, Christopher; daughter, Nicole and his nephews and nieces; Scott, Jessica, Nicholas and Alyssa.
